Hi, I?m Emily, and my little guy, Brenden, will be 3 1/2 next month, which I guess officially means he?s not a toddler anymore, and I?ve been booted from Toddler Times over here to Babble Kids. I?m excited to be here, connecting with new readers and also able to write about my daughter, who just turned five a few weeks ago. But, there?s a part of me that?s also torn ? should I be crying or celebrating that my little boy is growing up?
(And in case you either feel bad for me, or are jealous of me, that I?m past the toddler stage, don?t worry ? I also have a 5 month old daughter who, if she?s anything like her sister and brother, will give me one last shot at completely losing my mind during the toddler stage!)
You see, the thing is, my boy can throw a tantrum with the best of them. And he is so unbelievably distractable. And honestly, sometimes, I just don?t know what to do with him. (And did I mention that he loves to only wear underwear when we?re at home?)
I have two sisters, and being raised in a family with all girls has given me absolutely no help in raising this little man who is so incredibly sweet, kind, loving and sensitive and yet also volatile, determined and so, so physical. So, while we may be moving from the ?toddler stage? to the ?preschool stage?, I?m not sure that really has much to do with the fact that raising a boy is still very wonderful and challenging for me. So we?ll see what that looks like over the next few months as we make this transition.
And just to tell you a little about me and my family, besides my three kiddos I also have an awesome husband, and together we?re on a journey toward becoming a green and natural living family. Our Midwestern roots run deep, but we also find ourselves making lifestyle choices that run against the mainstream. I?m a home-birthing, extended breastfeeding, cloth diapering, babywearing, attachment parenting mama, who?s trying to figure out what all that means and looks like past the baby and toddler stage, and I?m excited to explore that in future posts here on Babble Kids.
You can also find me on my personal blog, Live Renewed, where I share tips, ideas and inspiration for green and frugal living, saving the planet and saving money at the same time.
I?m so looking forward to joining in with you all here!
